I tried it on 49.90 mhz using a radio shack set that I had, but did not have any luck. This radio is cosmetically damaged. It has been dropped, and the right hand handle broke.
This appears to be an early version, possibly a prototype. It has XC-3 as the model number after R-442. It is serial number 2. It is stenciled with 595 FA, so I believe this is from the 595th field artillery.
This does not come with a power cable. You will need a cx-4720 or cx-4721 to power this radio.
