Soviet Army (Land Forces) General's field visor hat, dated 1979. This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL visor hat of the USSR period, made in 1979 exclusively for the use by the Soviet military - not a replica (unlike most so-called "Soviet General's Hats" available on the market these days). Made in drab wool gabardine with red piping.

This type of hat was used exclusively by Soviet Generals and Marshals, not by lower ranking officers. The quality is better overall, and the interior is lined in finer silk.

The sweat band is in real leather with a drawstring to adjust for better fit, a standard feature of Soviet hats made for general officers. On the reverse of the sweat band there is a quality control stamp. The sweat shield is also a typical general's model: teardrop shaped, with gold maker's logo of the TsEPK Factory in Moscow.

The hat badge is subdued type, correct for the General's field hat. The number 79 stands for the year of manufacture. The size is marked 59, approximately US 7 3/8 (LARGE), although the hat may have shrunk a little bit as usual for old headgear and may be closer to US size 7 ¼. It is still a very good size for a Soviet hat, and it will even fit a size 7 3/8 head albeit tightly!

The hat is in SUPERB, NEAR MINT CONDITION. It is immaculately clean and crisp. There are no moth holes, bites or moth tracks that are typically found on hats of Soviet era.

(To be sure that the cap is completely free of even potential moth problem, we treated it for 2 weeks in a freezer as is our standard procedure for items made of wool). There are no snags, tears, soiling, or any other damage or heavy wear of any kind. The plastic visor shows no scuffs and is not deformed as is often the case.

A classic piece of Soviet headgear of the Afghan War era, as used by generals of the Soviet Land Forces in the field. This hat is exceptionally well preserved and will display beautifully!
