Swiss Army Leather Military Horizontal Saddlebag Messenger Bag 1940

  

This is an original Swiss Army Military Horizontal Saddlebag dated to 1940 that has been cleaned, restored and turned into a messenger bag (Images 12 and 13 show the condition of the bag prior to the restoration). WWII era Swiss military leather equipment is some of the best available due to the quality of the leather and craftsmanship that went into them. These bags are no different.

Originally designed to be worn on the pack saddles of horses and containing various tools and items to support the horses, they make great shoulder bags. The bag you are purchasing (Top bag in first image) was fully cleaned, leather reconditioned and all threading replaced with Tigre thread. Just as the originals I hand sewed the pieces.... In the process of replacing all the thread I also added an additional handle to the top and integrated into the bag so that it is functional and matches the style. The handle itself uses part of the connecting strap for the bag while the wrap is made of veg. In addition I added a strap made of two K-31 rifle slings. One dating to 1946 and the other to 1952. Overall condition for the bag is very good with minimal cracking the majority can be found on one of the straps as highlighted in one of the photos but does not impact the integrity of the strap. Overall the bag itself measures in at approximately 15.25" x 11.75" x 3. Despite the depth, the way the bag is designed allows you to fit much more into it as the front can expand out to accommodate larger items. Images 9-11 highlight all the items I was able to fit into the bag itself (no those aren't included).
