This Vintage 70s US Army USGI M1 Steel Combat Helmet is in good condition overall but shows expected signs of age, service and storage. The helmet shell is clearly stamped with a heat lot number that appears to indicate production by Ingersoll Products, Division of Borg-Warner sometime between 1965 and 1968.
Both chin strap swivels are firmly attached and show no signs of abuse or neglect. The chinstrap is 60s era production but has lost it's. The straps show expected wear but are still securely attached. The textured exterior finish appears to be original but does show wear from service and storage. The helmet liner is marked by Firestone and it appears to have been produced in the early 60s. The liner suspension is DSA contract stamped and dated 1965.
The suspension lining is strong however there is wear present near the crown where the suspension straps converge. The exterior OD Green finish is strong but shows typical wear. There are two noticeable cracks that can be observed, but are stable and neither hamper function or display. The ERDL Pattern Camouflage Helmet Cover is in good condition but does show wear from service. The original DLA ink contract stamp is faded but production appears to have taken place in 1978 or 1979.
Of note, "DRMO" is handwritten in black ink on the interior of the cover, suggesting surplus sale. The elastic helmet band is in very good condition and has had the glowing "Cat Eye" tabs associated with later 80s production removed.
